Barbara M. Paprock, RD

I am a registered dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) since 1978, a diabetes educator, certified by the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) from 1993 to 2018.

I am now focusing on functional nutrition. Getting to the root cause of our medical issues is key.  From obesity/diabetes to cancer, food choices are paramount.

In 1968 I was in a car accident that left me with a spinal cord injury, T5-6 paraplegia. After graduating from college I left the cold, snowy and not so wheelchair accessible landscape of the Midwest for the California coast and a dietetic internship. My 50 year experience living life in a wheelchair has enriched my understanding and empathy of the patient and client experience.

RYGforHealth was developed out of a need for easy to understand nutrition information for my patients at the VA Medical Center in Southern California.

The Exchange Lists from the American Diabetes Association were all we had 20 to 30 years ago. These were too complicated. I found the Vets always being confused about what foods were high in carb, protein and fat ...... and how in the world to put all this together into a meal that would control blood sugar.

In 2004, the first edition of RYG was born. It supported the practical, realistic nutrition style I believed in and still use to this day. Over the years, with emerging nutrition information, RYG has undergone many revisions.

My passion is to start right where people are in their lives with making change and negotiate small steps for improvement. I am very accustomed to working with people at any stage of change -- from the super motivated to someone who is fearful, resistant or overwhelmed.

Even a small change can have a huge impact.

No judgment, no confusion, just a common-sense approach that includes the foods you love, within your budget, in a smart way.

Although RYGforHealth was developed many years ago, I have eaten the RYG way throughout my entire career as a dietitian. This style of eating has kept be energized, at a healthy weight and has provided me countless meal ideas and well-balanced food combinations.

RYGforHealth can do this for you, too.
